Champ Camp 2008: July 13-19
Glacier View Ranch, Ward, CO
Champ Camp is a unique combination of outdoor fun and asthma education. For six days, professional medical volunteers teach campers about asthma and new ways to manage it. By the end of the week, campers have received not only asthma management skills, but life skills as well. Through activities from rock climbing to canoeing to zip line, kids learn that having asthma doesn't have to limit their possibilities in life.
Champ Camp is designed for kids 7-14 years old with moderate to severe asthma. Round-the-clock supervision means parents can rest easy while their children have a great time!
THANK YOU TO KAISER PERMANENTE AND 21 WHEELS FOR SPONSORING CHAMP CAMP 2008!
Thank You to Warren Village For Recruiting Campers for Champ Camp
Warren Village exists so that low-income, single parent families achieve sustainable personal and economic self-sufficiency. People who are homeless have not only lost their home, they have also lost their connection to the community. Safe and secure housing, combined with self-help services gives stranded families the opportunity to regroup and become valuable members of society. http://www.warrenvillage.org/
Brand New Counselors-in-Training (CIT) Leadership Program!!
We are pleased to announce a brand new leadership program designed for 15 and 16 year olds! This program will be quite similar to a traditional Counselors-in-Training program.
In years past, 15-year-olds have been too old to be campers and too young to be Junior Counselors. Because of this new program, 15-year-olds will be able to participate this summer! Even though 16 year olds were qualified in the past to volunteer as Junior Counselors, we will now require 16-year-old applicants to instead participate in this educational/training opportunity.
Several training sessions will take place prior to Champ Camp, and then the more practical, “hands-on” approach will be incorporated into the day-to-day at Glacier View Ranch. CITs will shadow Counselors during their daily routines. Over the course of the week, a CIT will acquire hands-on training in the areas of leadership, counselor responsibilities, behavioral challenges and asthma control. Also, a CIT will be responsible for ongoing camp clean-up and general assistance to his/her assigned counselor.
Requirements for CITs:
- Must be 15 or 16 years of age
- Commit to 2 training sessions prior to Champ Camp
- Will need to attend the 1st Orientation session at ALAC on Saturday, June 14
- Will need to attend the 2nd Orientation session at Glacier View Ranch on Saturday, July 12
- Must be present the entire week of Champ Camp
Ben Wilson, CIT Leadership Program Director, will facilitate the flow of the program, and the Champ Camp office will handle all paperwork, including applications. Applications are available for download on this page. Right click on the link below:
